Korean New Year’s Day Traditional Meal Part II

So here's part II of our New Year's Day Brunch. We'll introduce rest of our New Year's day Brunch Menu.

Galbi jjim
Korean braised/steamed short ribs or Galbi Jjim. This is one of our favorite Korean dishes. Agree?
With Daikon or Korean Radish you steam for quite some time to get it tender and all the sauce soaked into the meat. Yummm...and the next...

boochimgae
Korean style pancake or Boochimgae. They can be called Jun and or Boochimgae. This is Mung Bean Veggie Boochimgae (Mung Bean again. Yay!). You dip in the sauce or just eat it as it is. Today we just used same sauce for dipping sauce for Boochimgae and Mook sauce.

Booggumi/BuKumi
This is a very special Korean cake. Not many Koreans seem to know this rice cake. Although it looks like Mandu, it's actually a Dduk that you dip into honey or grain syrup/Ssal Yeot (like molasses). It's stuffed with seasoned bean paste and very chewy. Good for dessert!

Dessert drinks
Now when you are full and can't eat no more, we have dessert drinks. You might have tasted these from Korean Restaurants. They usually give it out for you to wash down all you ate.
The left one is called Shikhye or Rice punch. It's made of malt powder, rice, and some pine nuts if you want to add some. It's sweet and usually served chilled but you can still eat it while it's hot too. Also, you would need a spoon to get all the rice on the bottom.
The other one is Sujeonggwa/Sujeongkwa or Korean fruit punch which is made of ginger and cinnamon stick. You can serve this as it is or with dried persimmon soaked in the drink. This is also served chilled too.

So that's it for our Menu. For my late dinner, I gathered all the Namool together and ate bibimbap. So good! We'll post all the recipes asap so YOU can also enjoy these.
