Gochujang red pepper paste in Costco

I found gochujang at Costco! Never heard of the company brand name 'being blue' but the price was much lower than asian market...$9.97. We bought one to try with lettuce wraps and it tasted fresh and good gochujang.

We didn't try cooking with it yet, but so far we like the taste and the price. Hopefully they don't take it out from inventory. We will definitely go back for more!

Here's the back label for you to see.

Haitai Bon Bon Orange Juice with sac

Kyu invited some friends over for a Korean BBQ and Grace brought a case of this juice. This BonBon juice has been around for a long time since the 1980's I think. Commercial goes back to that year. Still Koreans love the juice with sac (pulp). And there's a competition brand Lotte SacSac. Both brands have Orange with pulp and Grape Juice with actual peeled grapes...yummm. I like the grape ones! Both brands have been around for a long time and I'm sure people have their preference.

I liked this Bon Bon Orange Juice better than Lotte Sac Sac. I haven't tried grape ones for a long time so I don't know which one I like. I think people over at the BBQ were saying Lotte Grape is better and Haitai BonBon Orange is better. I'll try both brands soon.

I found several old commercials...couldn't find any new ones...

I don't know if they make anymore commercials?
Anyhow it's still fun to watch the old commercials.

Scroll down & enjoy!

8First one was made in 1990. Kim Min Jung (actress) is in it. If you know her, you'll see that she looks the same. Ha ha.

This one was made in 1991 and animated. Ha Ha.

Kimchi Chronicles PBS TV series

I came across a preview of new TV series Kimchi Chronicles while browsing through H-mart website.

It's supposed to show Korea and the cuisine and how to cook it back at their kitchen in13 episodes...sounds interesting and a good opportunity to learn little more about Kimchi and Korean food recipes...

I think there are recipes I'm not familiar with too...'momgook'...?????never tried it...

Not sure exactly when it premieres...I thought I saw H-mart website saying it premieres on May 8th, but I couldn't find any further information anywhere else....and Kimchi Chronicles.tv website says "coming soon..." Hmmm....

Hopefully they post full episodes online.

Does anyone know the exact premiere?

In case you didn't see the preview...

****UPDATE***
It's airing in July!

Hansung Seafood Tuk-bok-ki (Seasoned Rice Cake) Review

Wow...time flies...it's already April...end of April...

Well, one day my sister Helena was so excited and praised how this instant Tukbokki her friend brought for her.

First of all, you need to know that she LOVES eating Tukbokki but not so much on cooking it. She told us that this was the perfect thing to have in your fridge when you gotta have that Tukbokki...like right now....!

She never was this excited about frozen food, so I thought I will give it a try too...but was little skeptical about this being a 'frozen food.' Found it in the frozen section...Helena asked me to get her 5 packs to stock up when I went to get one. Ha ha. Helena with her Tukbokki cravings...

So, this is the package...a nice sturdy package. We'll see if that shrimp in the picture is in there...we'll see...

Bibimbop for Dinner

My friend Helen invited June and me for a quick dinner. She prepared bibimbop for us. Nice.
Bibim means mix and bop means rice.
I'm sure many will know about this dish. It's a good dish to eat all different kinds of vegetables at once. But it takes some time to prepare since each vegetable needs to be prepared separately first.

Anyhow back to her bibimbop...

She sliced radish very thin and mixed with some salt and red pepper flakes. [Read more...]

Dongwon T2U All Natural Organic Green Tea

My friend gave me this bottle of tea. Like most of other teas bottled, I thought this would be too sweet to my taste since I don't like sweet stuff especially for tea or coffee. I personally think you can appreciate true flavor of tea or coffee without adding other stuff.

Well, back to this tea, to my surprise, this was just regular green tea like the Costco's Japanese tea I like. Nice! Hey I like this tea.

Happy New Year!

Hope 2011 be your best year ever!

Ddukgook, Rice cake soup usually cooked with Mandu/Dumplings (Called Dduk Mandu Gook then).

Garnished with egg yolk and whites strips, roasted seaweed, meat ripped into strips after making the broth for the soup.

***Koreans count the age from the year you were born, so New year means another year older (no matter when your birthday is...so we count 2 ages...one in general by birth year alone and by birthdate too..getting complicated eh?)***

Koreans say you become 1 year older when you eat this soup. Don't know why.... but that's what we say...Ha ha...

H-Mart Vegetable dumpling

Bought this at H mart for $9.99. I stopped by Lotte and found out that they have the exact same brand for $10.99.

Hmmmm....anyhow...I wanted Wang Sohn Mandu (meaning Giant Handmade Mandu). In fact, that's what the package says.

A peek into the Korean Culture-Pepero/Pocky Chocolate Snack Day

]Today, November 11th is Pepero Day. Pepero is Korean 'Pocky' chocolate covered stick biscuit. 11/11 is the shape of Pepero/Pocky...that's why. It seems like this day is also treated as a day for the couples like Valentine's Day as we know it.

This is the original Pepero. There are almond ones too and all different flavors of Pocky. Pocky is Japanese...just letting you know.
